Duffy School of Performing Arts

School of Drama

The Duffy School of Dance and Drama are delighted to have Karen Wheatley join our staff. Karen is an exceptional accompanist and we look forward to working along side her this year.

The School of Drama is changing their programme this year, focusing mainly on building skill through production. Each class will explore both large-scale and small-scale numbers from hit West End and Broadway musicals. See below for details.

Primary Class (P3 – P7)

During each session, students will have the opportunity to develop their singing voices, both as an ensemble and as an individual. Using production numbers from hit shows such as Oliver!, Annie, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Seussical and various Disney classics, students will explore character development, movement, direction and interpretation.

Each session will involve various warm-up games and activities, which are centred toward the particular scene/song we are developing.

Secondary Class

Students will have the opportunity to develop their skills through a series of workshops, using numbers from shows such as Hot Mikado, Sweeney Todd, Les Miserables, Little Shop of Horrors, Wicked and Hairspray. Each session will include voice development, character development, acting through song and movement. While exploring each production number, each student will have the opportunity to build on their audition technique and will be given the opportunity to perform solo work as well as group work.

Through various stimulus- based improvisation exercises, students will also have the opportunity to develop their group-work skills and will be given the option to build on directing techniques.

Each session will involve games and activities, which are centred toward the scene/song we are developing.
